Parvo Treatment and Protocols

Parvo Treatment and Protocols

FAST ACTING, EFFECTIVE, ECONOMICAL
Dr. Smith’s PARVO TREATMENT remedy and treatment protocol are highly effective (80% plus), cost effective and efficient for its treatment of ParvoVirus disease. PARVO TREATMENT has also been 100% effective in protecting non-ill, in contact, possible incubation, and non-immune puppies/dogs of parvo cases treated. None of the nine in contact housemates and littermates became ill or showed any signs or symptoms of parvo disease when Dr. Smith’s protocol for in contact dogs was followed. PARVO TREATMENT remedy is an oral homeopathic remedy requiring special storage.

Treatment Protocol for Puppies with ParvoVirus Disease

As soon as ParvoVirus disease is suspected, start administering Dr. Smith’s PARVO TREATMENT every 15 minutes until the pup/dog wants to eat and can eat without vomiting. This usually takes 12-24 hours using Dr. Smith’s treatment protocol. Once the pup/dog can eat without vomiting, administer the PARVO TREATMENT in one of the following fashions:

Option 1:
Days 1 & 2:      Administer PARVO TREATMENT 4 times daily
Days 3 & 4:      Administer PARVO TREATMENT 2 times daily
Days 5 & 6:      Administer PARVO TREATMENT once daily (optional)
Day 7:               Stop Treatment

Option 2
Day 1:              Administer PARVO TREATMENT 4 times daily
Day 2:              Administer PARVO TREATMENT 2 times daily
Day 3:              Administer PARVO TREATMENT once daily (optional)
Day 7:               Stop Treatment

Note that soft stools usually require 1–3 days to solidify.

Treatment

Treatment consists of dropping 3-5 drops on the tongue, lips or gums from above with the upper lip raised or squirting ΒΌ - ½ dropper full from the side onto the tongue, lips or gums, usually with the upper lip raised. Avoid touching the dropper to the patient because there are no preservatives in the PARVO TREATMENT remedy.  Administration can be easily accomplished by tilting the head slightly to the side and raising the patients upper lip, exposing the gums with your thumb.

Administration of PARVO TREATMENT should start as soon as parvovirus disease is suspected and be administered every 15 minutes while tests are being conducted (ELIZA Parvo Test) and fluid replacement therapy is being given. If conventional drugs or antibiotics are being given, for best results, always make sure a dose of PARVO TREATMENT is given last, that is after conventional therapy.

Administration of antibiotics is not necessary when PARVO TREATMENT remedy is being used for confirmed ParvoVirus disease. After the patient has been rehydrated with lactated ringers with 5% dextrose the patient may be released to the owner to administer PARVO TREATMENT remedy every 15 minutes as per the treatment protocol or 4-6 times daily as per the prevention protocol at the owners home after instructions on administration. Home treatment saves considerable costs. Patients should be monitored by your veterinarian at least once daily to avoid dehydration.

Dr. Smith has used and recommends rehydration with lactated ringers and 5% dextrose. He most often administers these fluids subcutaneously. This is especially important in small toy breeds. Our last case was a 2.8 lb. Chihuahua that its owner let vomit for two days over the weekend to avoid emergency treatment. The pup went from flat out to active in about 12-16 hours. Unfortunately when he really started to play, the pup didn’t have the energy reserves (blood sugar) it needed. This pup went into hypoglycemic convulsions. These little pups need energy supplementation. They can’t go without eating because of their lack of body mass and reserves like larger dogs. Don’t win against parvo only to lose to hypoglycemic. Rehydrate with lactated ringers with 5% dextrose. We’ve never had a skin slough.

Prevention Protocol for Puppies/Dogs Not Immunologically Protected Against ParvoVirus

These include young dogs usually under 5 months of age that are not fully vaccinated such as littermate puppies, housemates, kennelmates, in contact dogs, etc.

Protocol 1:

Days 1 & 2        Administer PARVO TREATMENT 4 times daily
Days 3 & 4        Administer PARVO TREATMENT 2 times daily
Days 5 & 6        Administer PARVO TREATMENT 1 time daily

Then administer PARVO TREATMENT once weekly until fully vaccinated. If a pup/dog develops ParvoVirus disease, start the treatment protocol immediately. PROTOCOL 1 has been 100% successful for the nine non-vaccinated, susceptible dogs in our study consisting of littermates, housemates and kennel mates in direct contact with puppies/dogs sink with ParvoVirus.

Protocol 2:

For SPCA’s, large kennels and facilities with a large number of dogs where cost may be a factor administer PARVO TREATMENT remedy once daily to all dogs in the facility once daily for 3-7 days then once weekly until dogs are fully vaccinated and immunologically protected. PROTOCOL 2 has not been thoroughly tested.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE OF DR. SMITH’S PARVO TREATMENT REMEDY AND PROTOCOL

PARVO TREATMENT remedy is a homeopathic remedy for the treatment and prevention of ParvoVirus. Each time you give a dose, the following instructions apply:

  1. Shake the stock bottle 8-12 times. That is, vigorously hit the bottle against a book or the palm of your hand, a telephone book or a stack of magazines. THIS MUST BE DONE BEFORE ADMINISTERING EACH DOSE.
  2. Instructions:
Always use PARVO TREATMENT after any other conventional medications, e.g. worming, antibiotics, etc.

1)       Rehydrate either with intravenous, subcutaneous fluids or oral fluids. Note that oral fluids will not work for vomiting dogs.
2)       Drop 3-5 drops on tongue, lips or gums once every 15 minutes until the pup feels better; vomiting has stopped; and the pup can eat. At this point, reduce treatment frequency to 4-6 times daily for 2-3 days; then reduce treatment frequency to 2-3 times daily for 2-3 days; then reduce treatment frequency again to once daily for 2-3 days. Stools may take several days to solidify. You cannot overdose. It is safe to use the whole bottle at one time, just more expensive. There is no benefit in increasing the dosage.
3)       Homeopathic nosodes (vaccines) are not meant to replace conventional vaccination programs unless under the guidance of a homeopathic veterinarian.

NOTE: This remedy tends to work better if food is withheld 15 minutes before and after treatment although for difficult dogs it can be put on a treat. If difficulties or adverse reactions arise, stop the remedy and contact the person who dispensed it.

IMPORTANT: Do not touch the dropper to your pet (hair, tongue, lips, gums, mucous membranes, etc). There are no preservatives in this remedy. If you do happen to touch the dropper to your pet, rinse it with spring, bottled, distilled or non-treated well water. Do not use any treated, softened or city water.
