In recent years, people in North America have increasingly been seeking nonconventional therapies for themselves and their pets. Although alternative therapies have been recognized and accepted for much longer in European countries and other parts of the world than in North America, the growing interest in North America has finally caught the attention of both the medical and veterinary communities (1,2).
